Exhaustive friction reduction
A roughly 30% reduction in friction was achieved compared to the Jatco CVT8 (an existing CVT in the same class) by thoroughly re-examining areas of mechanical friction, such as oil pumps, seal rings, and bearings. In addition, by using a short-pitch chain to achieve a ratio coverage of 8.2 and re-examining the torque converter’s lock-up mechanism to expand the slip lock-up region, fuel economy has been improved by 8% compared to the Jatco CVT8.
Superior drivability
The Jatco CVT-X has a twin oil-pump system utilizing an electric oil pump and a downsized mechanical oil pump, and achieves a ratio coverage of 8.2. In addition, by using a multi-plate lock-up mechanism for the torque converter, the time to lock-up completion is greatly reduced. As such, the speed of the response between accelerator input and vehicle action has been made incredibly fast, allowing the driver to drive exactly as they please.
Excellent noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) performance
By using a random-pitch chain and a new, highly-rigid chain guide configuration, chain vibrations are kept under control. With this, a quiet and comfortable ride can be realized, even with a chain-type CVT.
