Initiatives to promote every employee’s health / Creating a vibrant and comfortable workplace

The JATCO group is working on creating a work environment where each and every employee in a wide age range can work with enthusiasm. Focusing on health, which is the basis of vibrant work, the Health Support Center of the Safety and Health Management Department considers “food,” “physical exercise,” “sleep,” and “mental health” as the 4 basic pillars of health promotion. We strive to improve the health literacy of our employees through various activities by our occupational physicians and occupational health staff. We also provide support for balancing medical treatment and work so that employees who unfortunately suffer from illness can continue working with peace of mind. At the same time, we work together with the Human Resources and General Affairs Department to create a structure in which employees can fully utilize the various systems so that they can work with satisfaction. In this way, we are taking initiatives to provide a vibrant and comfortable workplace for employees across the group. In order to deal with the issues followed by various changes, we will continue to promote health management by formulating a three-year medium-term plan and taking on activities based on the six pillars.

Health education through health guidance and workplace visits

As part of our measures to combat lifestyle-related diseases and metabolic syndrome, we provide health guidance based on medical checkup results, and health education through workplace visits by occupational health staff. Based on data such as medical checkup results, occupational physicians and occupational health staff plan and implement education which is tailored to health issues by age group, as well as education and events for all employees, and make continuous improvements. Through continuing these activities we provide a variety of support so that occupational health staff can achieve their goals.

Physical exercises

We provide a lot of activities to support employees to maintain their exercise habits through holding events both inside and outside the company, online seminars. and events using apps for easy and effective exercise such a walking, muscle training, and balance ball exercises throughout the year. We set up a new training gym inside the company so that employees are able to develop their exercise habits. In FY2023, we invested approximately 5 million yen in order to set up the new training gym.

Activities to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure and reduce smoking rates

Since 2003, JATCO has promoted measures to eliminate secondhand smoke exposure and reduce the smoking rate. In order to eliminate passive smoking risk within the company, an initiative to eliminate smoking entirely at all locations was begun on April 1, 2017. This has significantly lowered employee smoking rates and has greatly reduced the risk from secondhand smoke. We will aim to reduce smoking by way of development activities that include continuing use of smoking cessation clinics, and maintaining a consultation desk at the health support office to help smokers quit.

Initiatives for mental health

Working environments are becoming more severe every year, and the occasions when employees feel stressed at work is on an upward trend in the JATCO group. We particularly focus on the mental health measures of our health promotion activities. The Health Support Center of the Safety and Health Management Department is the point of contact and our occupational physicians, occupational health staff and counselors continuously provide opportunities for consultation, return-to-work support, and educational activities. We also set up an external consultation service, and try to address all our employees’ needs.
Furthermore, we build face-to-face relationships with employees through mental health seminars and workplace visits by our occupational health staff, and carry out educational activities targeted at all managers by occupational physicians so that preventive measures and proactive countermeasures can be taken effectively. In addition, we take advantage of a stress check system and encourage work environment improvement. We also use an external employee assistance program and provide counselling, which is not just for individuals but also their families and is available anytime, anywhere in line with requests. In order to execute all of those activities effectively, we formed a mental health team with the Human Resources and General Affairs Department, the Safety and Health Management Department and occupational physicians, and by handling mental health problems even more quickly, we aim for the creation of an environment where employees can work with peace of mind.
