JATCO announces new eco-friendly “Jatco CVT7 W/R*”

JATCO Ltd (President: Teruaki Nakatsuka; head office: Fuji City, Shizuoka, Japan; capital: JPY29.9 billion), a leading manufacturer of automatic transmissions (AT/CVT), announced today, it has jointly developed with Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. the “Jatco CVT7 W/R”, a new CVT (continuously variable transmission) for front-wheel-drive compact vehicles. The new CVT is designed to enhance the fuel efficiency of internal combustion engine-driven cars.
*W/R means by wide range

The Jatco CVT7 W/R is based on the “Jatco CVT7”, the world’s first CVT with an auxilliary gearbox. Since its launch in 2009, Jatco CVT7, became a top-selling product environmental driving and its demand expands. The newly developed Jatco CVT7 W/R provides further enhanced driving performance by utilizing technologies such as active slip control to prevent excessive engine pick-up response when starting off and D-step(Dynamic Step-Shift) control to provide a sportier driving experience. Using newly developed new belts and improved pulleys, the world’s largest CVT ratio coverage of 8.7 is realized. Friction is reduced by adapting an enhanced small-sized oil pump, and fuel efficiency is improved accordingly. The Jatco CVT7 W/R is produced in JATCO (Guangzhou) Automatic Transmission Ltd. and is scheduled to be equipped with Nissan’s new model “Lannia” to be launced in the Chinese market in this month. Jatco CVT7 W/R production was started in August 2015.

Features of the Jatco CVT7 W/R
1. Improved drivability by fully utilizing CVT flexibility
Active slip control and D-step control provide an enhanced direct shift feeling.
2. Further enhanced fuel efficiency through new technologies
An expanded ratio coverage through newly developed steel belts and improved pulleys, and a friction reduction though improved small-sized oil pump and less fluid churning friction result in fuel efficiency improvement by 3%.
3. Improved performance with the current package ensuring the mountability
By locating control valves at the optimal position, the world’s largest ratio coverage of 8.7 was realized with minimal alteration of the packaging from the Jatco CVT7. As a result, the new Jatco CVT7 W/R has the same mountability as the Jatco CVT7.

JATCO President and CEO Teruaki Nakatsuka commented, “The newly developed
Jatco CVT7 W/R represents an significant advance in eco-friendly technology, and contributes to improving the performance and reducing the CO2 emissions of internal combustion engine vehicles. The new product will be also be crucial for JATCO group to achieve its goal of becoming the No.1 automatic transmission manufacturer in the world by 2020. Also, success of the new product launch at our plant in China is important for us from the view point of our global expansion strategy joining forces of JATCO group. Through the expansion of the CVT7 series with the Jatco CVT7 W/R, together with the “Jatco CVT8” and “Jatco CVT8 HYBRID”, we further enhance our competitiveness, maintain the world’s No.1 CVT market share and cope with CVT’s needs expanding in the global market.”

Since JATCO started manufacturing belt CVTs in 1997, the company has maintained its leading position in the industry through consistent efforts to cultivate and develop global markets, as well as to commercialize world’s first technologies. Currently JATCO is the only manufacturer providing a full lineup of CVTs from mini to 3.5-liter class vehicles. In 2014, JATCO recorded the largest share of 45% in global CVT production.
