JATCO has developed a compact 2-in-1 drive unit for electric-assist bicycles that integrates a shifting mechanism and motor assist into a single unit. Leveraging the technologies and manufacturing expertise JATCO has built through decades of automotive transmission development, this drive unit is designed to deliver smooth gear shifting, a comfortable ride feel, and consistent assist performance.
JATCO applies quality assurance standards informed by its experience as an automotive component manufacturer.
A dedicated smartphone application is also under development to support improved usability.

Key Features

The GA30 is a rear-hub drive unit that integrates two functions into one compact assembly:
• 3-speed internal gear transmission
• 250W assist motor (rated output)
Through JATCO’s engineering approach, the GA30 is designed to offer structural and functional value that differs from conventional electric-assist bicycle configurations.

    A JATCO-designed reduction planetary gear is used to amplify motor torque and transmit it efficiently to the rear wheel.
    This configuration is designed to support smooth acceleration when starting to pedal.

    A wide gear ratio tailored for electric-assist bicycles is combined with layout engineering optimized for limited installation space.
    This design supports both climbing capability and stable cruising across a wide range of riding conditions.

  3. Light shifting operation at the handlebar

    The shifting mechanism reflects JATCO’s expertise in transmission design, allowing gear changes with light input at the handlebar even when torque is applied during hill climbing.
    This helps reduce shifting stress and contributes to a refined, smooth shifting feel.

GA APP

The GA APP is designed to support the riding experience through features such as

  • Assist level selection depending on riding conditions
  • Training support through assist control when higher exercise intensity is desired
  • Route-based traffic and caution notifications, and route guidance

The bicycle can be ridden without using the app.
Additional features become available when the app is used in conjunction with the bicycle.

These models are currently under development.

Bicycle Sales (Japan)

Bicycles equipped with JATCO drive units are scheduled to be released in Japan in spring 2026.

    No. JATCO develops and manufactures drive units for electric-assist bicycles.
    Complete bicycles are developed, manufactured, and sold by bicycle manufacturers.
