JATCO, Attains Production of 100 Thousand Units
at the Guangzhou Plant in China

JATCO (Guangzhou) Automatic Transmission Ltd. (JGZ; President: Takashi Kamijukkoku), a China based production plant of JATCO Ltd (President & CEO Shigeo Ishida, Headquartered in Fuji City, Shizuoka, Japan, Capital: 29.9353 billion yen), a manufacturer of automatic and continuously variable transmissions (AT/CVT), announced that it has attained a total production of 100 thousand units.

JATCO established JGZ in China in April 2007 as its second overseas production base after its plant in Mexico, in order to meet the increasing global demand for CVTs, which are gaining attention as environmentally friendly technology. JGZ started full-fledged production of belt CVT for 2.0-2.5 liter class vehicles in September 2009, and has attained the 100 thousand unit production bench mark in June 2010 due to strong demand of CVT in Chinese market. This CVT is used in such cars as Dongfeng Nissan Passenger Vehicle Company’s TEANA, QASHQAI, X-TRAIL, and SYLPHY.

In order to cope with the expected further increase in demand for the CVT in the Chinese market, JGZ will add and start operations for a new 240 thousand units per year production line by mid 2011. It will give a total production capability of 380 thousand units per year, including a current 140 thousand unit per year capacity.

Since started manufacturing belt CVTs in 1997, JATCO has maintained its leading position in the industry through consistent efforts to cultivate and develop global markets, through commercializing world-first technologies. In 2009 it introduced to the market for the first time the CVT with auxiliary transmission, which makes use of unique and revolutionary technology. Currently JATCO is the only manufacturer that has a full lineup of CVTs from mini-vehicles to 3.5 liter class vehicles. In 2009, JATCO recorded the largest share in the global CVT production at 41%.
