“Jatco CVT8” expands its suitability to the 2.0-to-3.5-liter classes. Keeping the CVT’s smooth drive, this unit achieves a top class ratio coverage while being compact, and with sophisticated improvements to the efficiency of the respective mechanisms, a significant reduction in friction has been achieved, improving fuel economy by up to 10%*1 the conventional CVT. Quickness of the power train, quick response, acceleration, and the unified feel to the acceleration and engine sound can be felt the moment the driver steps on the accelerator, all thanks to the hardware development and advanced control technology.

A minute width expansion of axial distance, achieved with anarrower axle of the pulley and by a newly developed belt which caters for this configuration, resulted in the world’stop level ratio coverage of 7.0 from the previous ratio coverage of 6.0. This achieves strong acceleration upon launch. Furthermore, lowering the engine rpm at high speeds achieves improved fuel economy and a quiet drive.
We returned to the basic machine design, and reviewed approximately 300 CVT components out of a total of approximately 500. In addition to this, we miniaturized the oil pump and introduced the usage of a newly, developed low viscosity oil. As a result CVT friction is reduced by approximately 40%*3- a great contributing factor to the fuel economy.
